Man Jailed for breach of trust

An Abuja Magistrate Court Wednesday sentenced a middle-aged man, Endurance Edward to one month imprisonment for cheating one Onah Chris.

The accused, who resides at Jikwoyi Phase 1, Abuja, was arraigned for breach of trust and cheating, offences punishable by Sections 311 and 320 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Sani Sarki told the court that on December 6, Onah reported at Jikwoyi Police Station that the accused collected 11 palm sandals valued at N13, 000 with a view to selling them to customers and remitting the proceeds to her but he failed to do such and converted the money to his own use.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The prosecutor urged the court to try the accused summarily under Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Magistrate Celestine Odoh sentenced the accused to one month imprisonment with an option of N2, 000 fine.

The magistrate also ordered the accused to pay N13, 000 as compensation to the complainant.

Bizman Arraigned over Mischief

THE police yesterday arraigned a middle-aged businessman, Sesan Joseph, for alleged mischief.

Police prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, told the court that on December 3, one Nwoji Udoaka of Pyakasa village, Abuja, reported to the police that the accused went to his house and set fire on almost 20 Mercedes Benz tyres valued at N95, 000 and immediately ran away after carrying out the act.

The prosecutor said when the accused was arrested; he could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail.

Magistrate Hauwa Aliyu granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Man inflict injury on husband and wife

A 22-year-old man, Yusuf Abimaje of Lugbe village was yesterday arraigned before an Abuja Magis­trate Court for allegedly using a cutlass to inflict injuries on one Bashim Mamman and his wife.

He was charged for con­travening Section 247 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor Yilkudi Dungji told the court that on Decem­ber 1, Bashiru Mamman reported at Lugbe Police Station that the accused used a cutlass to hit the complainant and his wife on their heads, adding that during police investi­gation he confessed to the crime.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail and Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the court s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to January 26 for hearing.

Man Charged with Public Disturbance

A middle-aged man, Ejeh of Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, was last Friday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for alleged criminal force and causing public disturbance.

Police prosecutor, Francis Tanko, informed the court that on December 3, one   Ahmed   Abubakar, a superintendent of customs reported at Wuse police Station   that the accuse disturbed public peace in the area.

He further stated that when policemen went to invite the accused, he resisted arrest and violently fought them.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail, which was not objected to by the prosecutor.

Magistrate Aminu Eri granted the accused bail in the sum of N5, 000 with a reliable surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to January 12, 2011 for hearing.

Carpenter in Court over Assault

A 21-year -old carpenter, Felix Onuigboje, was yester­day arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court for alleged criminal force, assault and mischief, offences contrary to Sections 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Muhammed Ahmed, informed the court that on December 1st, one Adah Anthony reported at Maitama Police Station that he took the accused in his commercial vehicle from Mpape junc­tion with other passengers to Nyanya axis of the FCT and the accused came down at his destination without pay­ing him.

He further told the court that the refusal of the accused to pay the complainant his transport fare led to a confron­tation in which the accused assaulted the driver and delib­erately used his hand to break the back windscreen of the commercial vehicle.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail, while the prosecutor asked for a date for hearing.

Magistrate Njideka Duru granted die abused bail in the sum of N10, 000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Court Remands Suspected Rapist

An Abuja Upper Area Court sitting at Gwagwalada Area Council last Friday remanded a 24-year-old man in prison custody for allegedly raping his neighbor’s 7-year old child.

Solomon Christopher, of Gwako village, how­ever denied the charge of rape when it was read out to him and Judge Adamu Wakili remanded him and adjourned the case till February 9th, 2011, for the police to present witnesses.

The victim’s mother had told the police on November 28 that the accused invaded her room in Gwako village at 7: 30 pm and she caught him naked with her seven year-old child.

TWO JAILED FOR STEALING IRON RODS

AN Abuja Magistrate Court yesterday sentenced two young men to 28 days impris­onment for stealing 18 pieces of iron rods belonging to Light House Estate, Lugbe, Abuja.

Chekwube Okeke of Lugbe Zone 6, Abuja, and Onyeka Onyie of Gosa village, Abuja, were caught red-handed and brought to the Lugbe Police Division for jointly commit­ting the offence.

Police prosecutor, Yilkudi Dungji, a constable, informed the court that on September 30, one Mr. Ovrivie Efem of Light House Estate appre­hended the two accused per­sons red-handed in posses­sion of the stolen iron rods.

The accused persons stole 18 pieces of iron rods, valued at N330,000, and were caught red-handed, offences punish­able under Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code” the prosecutor said.

They pleaded guilty to the two-count charge and begged the court for leniency, prom­ising not to steal henceforth.

Based on the guilty pleas, the prosecutor asked the court to try them summar­ily under Section 156 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Magistrate Idayat Akanni sentenced each of them to 14 days imprisonment on the charge of joint act or to pay N1, 000 as fine and another 14 days on the second charge of theft or to pay N1, 000 as fine.

She also ruled that the two jail terms should run concur­rently.

Those who are supposed to be Security men jailed 2 months for theft

TWO security men, Jerry Shammah and Nzaku were yesterday sentenced to two months imprisonment for stealing armoured cable from their duty post.

The accused persons of Santana Security were said to have jointly stolen the armored cable at AP Plaza, Wuse II, on October 3, 2010.

The prosecutor Adamu Abdullahi had earlier informed the court that on October 3, one Faz­ing Jangga reported to the police that the accused persons stole the said cable valued at N 144,500 at AP Plaza where they were detailed to guard and were subsequently arrested.

The accused pleaded guilty and begged for leni­ency, saying they will not do it again and that they did not know what came over them.

The prosecutor urged the court to try the accused summarily under section 157 of the Criminal Pro­cedure Code, adding that the offences are punishable under section 79 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.

Based on their confes­sion, magistrate Okeagu Azbak sentenced the accused persons to two months imprisonment each or a fine option of N 2,000 each on the two count charge.
