AN OKADA RIDER CAME IN CONTACT WITH HIS DEATH IN LAGOS BY A TRAILER
AN unidentified commercial motorcycle operator was yesterday crushed to death by a trailer along the Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The accident occurred when the Okada rider somersaulted after ramming his motorcycle into the trailer with registration number, XA573RRM. Our correspondent reports that the Okada rider died on the spot.
According to a witness, Mr. Sulaimon Badru, the Okada rider was speeding. Badru, who said the state government did the right thing by banning motorcycles on highways in Lagos, however, lamented that the government was not enforcing the law.
“People have been complaining since government banned Okada from highways, but this is just one of the numerous Okada accidents that have occurred since the law was introduced. Okada riders need to be forced to comply with rules and regulations guiding their operations, not only for their safety, but for the safety of their passengers,” he said.
When our correspondent visited the LASTMA office, he gathered that the body of the Okada rider had been taken to the Isolo General Hospital’s mortuary and that the driver of the trailer had been detained by police.
Reacting to the accident, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Professor Bamidele Badejo, flayed the use of motorcycles on highways.
